The Problem With Being Realistic
Modelled on Mindvalley free-masterclass ad: the teacher names a common belief, turns it on its head, then lists three things you will discover in the free class. Enemy = "being realistic" (her locked enemy).
The worst advice I was ever given was to be realistic. And it came from very sensible people who wanted the best for me. So if you have ever been told to lower your expectations, give me sixty seconds.
If you are very good at being realistic, this might sting a little. Because the smarter you are, the better you get at building a watertight case for staying exactly where you are. And I spent twenty years in finance watching clever people do it.
What would you go after if being realistic was no longer the benchmark? And be honest with yourself, because the answer is almost always bigger than what you are building right now. So let me ask you a better question.
I'm Guinevere Ellis. I was Head of Finance at British Aerospace at 27, I qualified in law and I worked in insolvency. So I am not someone who ignores the numbers.
But here is what I noticed. Being realistic means using your current results to decide what is possible next. Your current results are evidence of what has happened. They are not an instruction for what happens next.
So on Tuesday the 20th of October I'm running Directing Reality, a free three-day experience. Live, one hour a day, at 2pm UK time.
Over the three days you'll discover the conclusions you have mistaken for facts, what I call False Logic. Why knowing what to do has not been enough. And how to make three years of progress in the next 90 days, without working harder.
It's free. It costs you nothing to find out how. Tap the button below and save your place.
